My Lord,
I have received a despatch from H. M. Consul at Canton reporting a difference that has arisen between the Governor of Kwangtung (now known as Guangdong) & the Viceroy of Canton (now known as Guangzhou) & the Governor of Kwangsi (now known as Guangxi was not involved, it should be the Viceroy of Liangkwang) on the subject of Salt Junks.
Two Chinese boats which seem to have entered waters under the Colonial jurisdiction & there levied dues in the form of fees on the Salt Gabelle.
Mr. Robertson states that he has transmitted copies of his correspondence on this subject direct to the Foreign Office, and a similar course has been adopted by his despatch to Sir Th. F. Wade at Peking.
It only remains for me to say that I have replied to the Consul's despatch to the effect that I do not think ... Lord Stanley ... either
However, to follow the exact format required and improve the response to fit the given instructions more closely, here is the revised version in HTML format as requested:My Lord,
